    Riesling cuvée

    The Bohém Cuvée is our estate wine and a true classic. The reductively made Riesling core is made complete by some Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and a touch of barrel ageing. If there were a white bistro wine, it would most certainly be like this. Light, fresh and fruity, but mostly Bohemian.

    “A fresh blend of Riesling Italico (Olasz Riesling), Rhein Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris that showcases Balaton’s volcanic terroir. The backbone is Riesling Italico, one of the main grape varieties of the region. Pinot Gris provides a round middle palate while Rhine Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc add aromatic notes and racy acidity. The label that pictures a cartoon fight with St. George and the Dragon, refers to the volcanic hill named after St. George where the winery is located. The wine has a pale straw color, a clean nose with aromas of sea spray, flint, lemon rind, and a hint of jalapeno. The palate is medium-bodied with a strong minerality and some saltiness. Serve it chilled with charcuterie or spiced pork roast.”

    “The varieties are the same, while the proportions have changed a little: 40% Olaszrizling, 25% Pinot Gris, 20% Riesling and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. It was fermented mainly in tanks, while only a single big barrel of spontaneously fermented Riesling was put into the blend. Low acidity, white flower notes, mainly Sauvignon flavours, fresh after bottling. Refreshing as always, full of fruit, plus 2g/l of residual sugar.”

Grown on volcanic soils and done in a bone-dry style, this wine is all about minerality, and you’ll see that expressed in its energetic, almost spritzy texture and in its clean aromas of salty sea-spray. Zippy notes of grapefruit and lime linger on the wine’s very elegant finish.”

    Kacér Rajnai Rizling

    This wine was first made in 2015 from the virgin vintage of the Váradi vineyard. We show Riesling from a different angle, as instead of spontaneous fermentation and ageing in barrels, we chose the reductive method, in tandem with cultured yeast. The result is an elegant nose, focused acidity and incredible zestiness.

    Martinus Olaszrizling

    This Olaszrizling arrived to Szent György Hill courtesy of our winemaker Márton Ruppert’s limestone plots on Tagyon Hill. The wine was fermented in cooled steel tanks and rested on its lees for a few months. Rarely are so many flavours encountered in an Olaszrizling as can be found in this wine. It’s fresh, concentrated, varietally pure and round at the same time.

    Our friend Márton Ruppert – who also happens to be a folk dancer and hence the violin on the label – as well as the winemaker of the Gilvesy Winery, has been running a small cellar on Tagyon Hill for years together with his partner. “We’ve been carrying out organic grape growing since 2013 and we believe the vines have become stronger and more resistant this way. I know the flavours of volcanic wines from Szent György Hill very well, but my heart always pulls me back home, which is why Robert and I decided to separately show this wine that came from limestone soil.” Márton Ruppert

     

    The first wine to be bottled by the young winery. It spent 5 months in tanks and was aged on the fine lees. Floral, delicious aromas, good acidity with a touch of natural residual sugar and the place of growth’s minerality on the finish.

    Sauvignon Blanc

    This Sauvignon Blanc is from the mutual fruit of the north-facing, cooler Mogyorós vineyard and the south-facing, warmer Váradi vineyard. In 2015, a wine with pronounced varietal character was born, although the volcanic character of Szent György Hill is still in evidence. Pure nose and palate with the variety’s usual lightness of touch.

    “The virgin vintage from two plots: the cooler Mogyorós and the warmer Váradi vineyard, aged in tanks. Greenish hue with silver tints, with slowly opening, delicately mineral, grapefruit aromas. It needs a bit of time: fresh, fragile, extremely elegant Sauvignon with delicious minerality, grapefruit, a touch of paprika and white-fleshed fruit. ”

    Rajnai Riesling

    The fruit of the Tarányi vineyard is complemented by that of the newly-producing Váradi vineyard, which also comprises Riesling for the most part. This variety has found an excellent partner in the Szent György Hill, which conveys its elegant and volcanic traits perfectly. It is dominated by flavours of ripe fruits and mineral saltiness.

    “Golden colour, mineral, subtly oaky, vibrant aromas with meadow flowers. Lots of flavours on the long palate. Szent György-hegy, Tarányi vineyard, 35-year-old vines and hot basalt. Fermented to dry with half undergoing controlled fermentation in tanks and the other half spontaneously in 500-litre barrels, where it was also aged.”

    Already the third single vineyard selection from the tiny 1.3-hectare Tarányi vineyard’s 45-year-old vines. The yield restriction provides the truly concentrated base material which following a spontaneous fermentation in oak barrels, ages for 8 months on fine lees in order to achieve the matching complexity. Zesty, layered, with long ageing potential.

    Fortunately, we discovered the vast potential of the Mogyorós vineyard fairly early on. We’ve been making wine from its old vines since 2009. The base material that made it into the barrels owes its unparalleled complexity as wine to the long ageing after the spontaneous fermentation. Long, creamy palate and an array of ripe fruits.

    Our winery’s first Furmint, fermented and aged in barrels without filtering. It’s surprisingly rich and exciting.

    The virgin vintage of the freshly planted Váradi vineyard’s Furmint has exceeded all our expectations. We aged the excellent base material in 500-litre barrels for 7 months. The supremely rich, mineral, tropical fruit nose is rounded out by 5 g/l of residual sugar. The small batch was bottled unfiltered.
